Worms
5/3/13 @ 10:09 AM
Went out last night during the rain and picked up a ton of worms. I go alot of nice crawlers and a ton of panfish sized worms. I have them in a rubbermaid with buss beading in it now. I was wondering if anyone knew ways to keep worms healthy and stuff. Also if you think people might be interested in buying them? Thanks

Got out last night for a little bit and picked maybe 6 dozen. Stopped before my back got to the point of no return. I was taking my time and my grass made it tough, but should have enough for this weekend now. I normally don't pick them, but after seeing the latest prices I figured I might as well. Around $2 a dozen by me, I had a dozen in about 5 minutes.
"5,000 worms and a $500.00 annual limit. That's about $1.20 per dozen. I'll take 5 dozen!"
That's the rule if you are under 16.
I don't think that the WDNR is going to worry about someone who is over their possession limit with worms unless you start undercutting local bait shops and they complain about it. If you've got an over abundance and "share" them with your buddies you won't have a problem. It's not as if nightcrawlers are an endangered species.
Obviously the first issue is with other bait shops who could be losing business...but in the state's eyes it's about taxable income. They want their share too.
I have not had much luck with any commercial worm bedding other than Magic Worm Bedding. It comes in a yellow box and I've only been able to find it online and at Walmart. A couple years ago I picked about 13 dozen crawlers and they got significantly bigger in this bedding. Also, make sure you keep it cool!
