What weight is this fly rod?
3/26/12 @ 3:55 PM
I have a rod that my grandfather gave me as a very young child. Its brand new, used maybe once, but I don't know what weight rod it is. Its graphite, 10ft 2in long, two pieces, and the base of the rod is 3/8ths of an inch in diameter. It has no manufacturer's or weight markings and I want to know what I can use it for. I'm thinking its a 7 or 8 weight because its larger in diameter than the fiberglass 6 weight that I have.
I don't know if that's enough info to work on but thanks to anyone who can help.

The benefit of doing it that way is everyone has a slightly unique casting stroke. At times because the design and manufacture of the rods is different to each as well you will find that a different weight line works better than what is recommended by the manufacturer.
If you are in the Milwaukee area, Pat Ehlers or the guys at the Fly Fishers would be happy to help you.
