Gar Fly fishing fun! It fights harder than most fish and there are very many species. Since I live near Alton,IL I fish the Illinois and Mississippi river. I will fish in sloughs big shallow lakes and oxbow lakes for them. Around here you will usually catch shortnose gar, the occasional longnose gar and the rare spotted gar(It is rare around this area.). You can catch them on any flies, but the best flies to use are rope flies(flies with threads of string or rope with no hook)because you go to the trouble of getting the hook out of that toothy mouth! If you want to put any more info just post it!

This weeks topic is gar and dogfish and I will be talking about where and how to catch them mostly with a fly fishing rod but also with a few other techniques.
