Most current tip tops with a good type of ceramic ring will handle braids no problem. One of the most important things I look for in a tip is some type of recessed ring - where the ring is cupped or protected more by the frame. Most major companies have a version like this. I see a lot more tips damaged by "accidents" than by wear, and this design really helps.

funny loomis, as good as the recoils are with braid, I just dont fish it much, and use my rod with recoils exclusivly with fluorocarbon (football jig/big worm rod)...I really do like the guides, very smooth and much more durable than anything out there...they are pretty close to indestructible. Extreme durability and high end are seldom seen in any single product. Kinda surprised to see them not more popular....seems like it was a trend that just never really caught on with most manufacturers (mine's on a BPS jhonny morris elite and bps no longer uses recoils with any of their rods).

I have had very good luck with Fuji Alconite with braid.I also use S.I.C (silicon carbide)they will last longer then you will.

I was reluctant to use the Recoil guides due to some of the claims of "grooving", but after some more digging, there is absolutely no credence to it. They do actually polish overtime and become slicker. I'm currently doing my first build with them now, however it will be on a rod using Fluorocarbon exclusively.

Recoil guides actually get polished by braid and become slicker with time.

jjfish, The ceramic inserts for tip tops and guides have a hardenss rating to them but rarely is that available to the consumer unless you look for it. I assume that all of my custom rods will be used for braid. As you would assume the cheaper the guides the greater chance for grooving. I use with no problem Fuji Aclonite, Fuji Hardloy, any of the Mud Hole brand, most American Tackle, most Batson, and some Pac Bay. Stay away from aluminum oxide, especially the older models as grooving is a problem with them. If you have a specific brand of guide you want to use please PM me and I will be happy to help you out. Don't chinze on a couple of bucks more for a good set of guides. light stronger frames, better adheasion of the guide rings to the frames, harder inserts, well worth the extra money for guides and tip top. It was the original braided lines like Kevlar that caused the problems. Modern superlines are very slick and won't damage even older guides.

Most modern Tip-Tops will handle braid without a problem. I've been partial to Fuji and their Silcon Carbide, but American Tackle and PacBay also make quality products.
