Hey All, I need a new vacuum cleaner for the house. I have 2 German Shepherd dogs and 3 long haired cats. If you know animals and you know vacuum cleaners at all maybe you can offer an opinion, good or bad about what you to deem to be the best vac around. First hand information please. I'm looking for a bag-less upright model. Thanks for your input. Steve L

I have a Black Lab and Two small kids. The last few months the kids cut (with scissors) up everything. Lots of scraps. We ahve a Dyson. It is for pets. It has a FEW different filters. MORE THEN ONE. Figure out how they work and keep then clean. This thing kicks ass. lots of pressure and does not send a bunch of crap back into the air.

Also have 2 shepherds and have been using a Bissell cyclone pet model. Picks up lots of hair. Had to empty the canister after every use. I got sick of the vacuum thing and ripped out my carpeting and put laminate in a week ago. I'm loving it!!

We recently purchased a Hoover nano cyclone vac ( $50 or so) and it works well for all the dander/hair. Definitely recommend some sorta whirlwind/cyclone type vac. Makes the task more enjoyable when you can actually see the crud being picked up compared to the bag vacs. For reference, we have 2 dogs and 2 cats in the house.....no shortage of hair. It' s nothing to fill the canister in a sweep thru a couple rooms every other day or so. The nano also has the detachable hose for getting along the wall bases and up high for the occasional spidey webs.

My buddies wife bought a $2k Kirby. He almost crapped himself when she did it but now says it was a good investment. Honestly, his carpet still looks great after 8 years with 2 dogs. I use a regular vac and replace carpet about every 5 years. Need to do the math.

Dysons are rated highly, but they make various models and the 62 purple seems to be the one but.. I want as much info as I can scrape up.
