I finally convinced the wife that it was time to get a pup. My two Goldens are now 10 and 11 years old. Still going good, but much slower than in their younger days. I wanted to do this before they get too old, and will not accept a puppy's high energy level. So far so good. He is already able to respond to some basic commands, and is walking quite well on the leash. Pic is at 8 weeks, he is now 10 weeks. We named him Enzo.

Thanks for the info and updates on the pup, thinking on getting away from goldens with a golden doodle due to the wifes allergies. Our oldest golden isnt doing well at the moment, and its a matter of time before we start over.

Do u see a big difference in the shedding and any allergies that you might have with the goldens?

Time really flies...

Enzo is now almost 18 months old. He really is a super dog. Fast learner, follows commands very well. He now walks off leash, just like my 2 goldens. I don't hunt him, but I don't doubt he could do a good job. He loves to fetch, and is a good swimmer too.

He is a lovable, goofy mutt. We don't regret getting our 'designer dog', although there will always be a golden in the house as well since they are my favorite.

I broke my pup from biting/mouthing by grabbing his muzzle, giving a gentle shake while saying "no bite." Consistency is key - everytime he mouths. My dog's teeth are not allowed on skin, period.

Thanks!

This morning I decided to excercise/walk him to burn off some of that energy rather than me drinking coffee and reading the paper. Worked well! He just wants to play first thing!

River Man, might want to try grabbing him over the muzzle and curling his chops over his top teeth and pinching them against his teeth. Reinforce with a firm NO. Bitter apple worked great for me once I started grabbing my lab and spraying directly in the mouth. I actually found an old bottle from two years ago just the other day, showed it to him and he immediately scrunched his nose and turned his head away. Funny he still remembers that stuff from so long ago!

Ours is now 8mos old and 70lbs. Great dog and very smart! Only problem is in the morning he is very mouthy. Wants to bite and chew everything, including my hand and arm.Tried pushing my thumb further in(gag), and bitter apple etc. This works to some extent. Any other thoughts on stopping this tendency? It only lasts about an hour, then he is fine the rest of the day.
