Lake Trout LOTW Turtle Portage

Just wondering if anyone can give some advice out there... We fish out of Red Wing Lodge just north of Morson on West end of Sabaskong Bay. I am hoping to try to take the Turtle Portage track into some lake trout water to the north. My questions are...is the track in decent shape b/c I have heard stories of it coming off in the past. Also, is the fishing decent enough in that area to go to the trouble. I like a good adventure but don't want to waste a whole day if trout are really hard to find. I have done a lot of lake trout fishing in the past. Thanks for any help/advice in advance.

If you are staying near Nestor Falls and have access to the road you can launch into Whitefish bay from Vic and Dots camp for $10 and save yourself the headache of using the pully. Just a thought.

I was over on Whitefish a few weeks ago and stopped down there.. the system was operational however it pulled very hard with no load on it and I can't say Id want to try and pull a boat over it. Needs some work.

I'm heading to Sabaskong Bay in the middle of September. My dad and I have used the pulley system to get across Turtle Portage so we can fish in Whitefish Bay. Has anyone been up there in the last few days to know if the pulley system is function on Turtle Portage?
