We just got back from Salveson Lake. Fly in camp through Halleys. 5 guys, 700ish pike, maybe 300 walleye, some smallies mixed in. Our cabin was excellant, I thought the fishing could have been a bit better for size. Biggest pike only 36. Some bigger follows. Biggest eye was 20. I guess its easy to be greedy in canada. Over all...a great trip.
A big thrill was watching my bro in law catch his first ever pike...a 30 incher. He was hooked for life after that.
Great to hear all of your reports.
There were four of us this year, and we got blown off the water one day....We ended up catching a total of 3152 fish for the week. If you EVER wanted to do a Canadian fly in, ONLY cabin on the whole lake and literally want to catch THOUSANDS of walleyes, you need to make a trip to this or other lakes that produce thousands of fish. Send me a private message and I'll fill you in. I sent Kona7 (a fellow linker) up there this year and they immediately re-booked for 2014. Its amazing. Whole trip ran 1320.....fly in everthing included. SPLIT
ps found this in a bay while Northern fishing...
Pikeman- The lake is very remote, the only boats you will see are the ones from the lodges. We did not portage to any lakes. This was our first time here and the people at GR are awesome, they will get you on the fish!! I did talk to some guys that did some of the portages and they were having great luck. The portage trip in and out is pretty cool, they have it down to a science. The total trip in takes about an hour. I know i'm going back, and now that I have done it once I no what to expect and will be more prepared for some portage trips. Two thumbs up here!!!
I guess we did not do as good as others. 52 miles north of Red Lake. Flyin. Caught walleyes and northerns, but relatively slow. First 5 days were nice and last two were terrible. Cold, rain, and high winds. Fish were shallow-some eyes were milking first few days. Mostly used plastics. Bottombouncers. jig and twisters.
We got back on Friday from a trip to Grace Lake thru Clarke's Resorts. Ice had just come off the lake 3-4 days before our trip and the walleye's were just ending their spawning cycle. Males were still milking the first 2-3 days of our trip. Fishing was great but we were mainly catching males in the 14"-18" range. As the water warmed the last two days we started catching some 20" plus females and it should just get better. Also caught some decent Northern's and the largest was 40".
Special thanks to fellow LL member "Splitshooter". He was our main referral for Grace lake and he sent a marked up map of the lake before our trip that was a big help to our group.
