Ipad used as gps
4/24/12 @ 4:45 AM
was wondering if anyone has tried the new Ipad for marine navigation or automobile GPS from what i have heard you can purchase apps for both and that would be nice having that large screen in the boat for navigation or used as a gps, you could kill two birds with one stone and then some.

I have both Google Maps and the Android Navionics app on my NON-Ipad tablet. The Google Maps for vehicle nav works great. Have used it several times with no problem. As far as the Navionics app, drove out on the lake I live on this winter just to check it out, seemed pretty accurate. But, haven't used it in a boat yet. Love having GPS on a 10" screen.
Best bet work be to see what other Ipad owner's reviews have to say on Amazon or the Navionics site itself. Do know the Android and the Ipad apps are different because of different OS.
I have the Navionics App on my iPhone and I really like it. It's similar to a modern GPS unit and has mapping features, waypoints, etc. I have used it fishing open water as well as on the ice. I have also used it as an automobile GPS. I don't see why it wouldn't work on an iPad.
