Looking for a salmon brine for smoking salmon I’m looking for a sweet and spice taste to my salmon I have a good brine now but I want to try something new with a little kick to it. Don’t care if it’s store bought or home made just want to try something different from what I already do

Here's my 3rd day outing from Salmon-A-Rama from mid-July kayak fishing out of Port Washington Harbor .  The west winds continued to keep some salmon super shallow (and hungry)!

Set lines 415 60 to 70 feet of water north of Port Washington, finding mid 50s down 30. Marked a few hooks and some bait. Downrigger with Meg RV sandbur fired three times in a row down 42 and they all escaped. The next rip was a seven color that took everything including the board and the lore and all the lead core!

Continued north and eventually took a nice coho homemade Vandal style flasher fly 95LOC. Same flasher on a 32 downrigger coho. Chinook down 45 on a Mag RV Sanburr.

The hooks dried up and we tried to head out having to turn back at 180 feet of water because of 3 to 4 footers. Went back in shallow to 65 feet and wandered around for 3 hours with no bites and pulled lines.

The cold water was there, but I don’t think the fish had moved in yet. Unfortunately it will not last long with 46 footers out of the Northeast predicted for Monday. Today one friend had four fish, another four and another one bite for a nice king. DNR creel guys said reports a lot of fish bites that escaped.

Setting lines a couple of miles south of the harbor in 90 feet of water finding the water much smoother than anticipated. Wind was already out of the west and knocked down the north east waves. Marking some fish and no bait. Had 55° water down 60. I wiggled into 80 and finally got a bite at 90 feet 58 down on  flasher/bullfrog taking a nice 10 pound king. Then a long time without a bite. I think I made a mistake by not starting in 65 or 70 because there would be cold water on the bottom and fish would be feeding out of temp.

I couldn’t find a decent trolling angle, so I turned back north about 6 miles south of the harbor. Current was out of the north and finally got into a decent angle working 180-195fow. Same flasher fly combo fired on my Shallow Rigger with another king about 12 pounds marking fish fairly regularly going through our downrigger‘s but they were not biting. Downrigger fired again, but that time it escaped before we could really get it coming. Deep Rigger 101 feet of cable out magnum RV Sanburr pulled about a 10 pound Laker. Next fish a nice bowl on seven color regular RV agent orange.

A friend was getting his bites on SWR deep so stuck one on the corner rigger down 77 with a magnum RV Sandburr  a produced a dandy rainbow that spent as much time in the air as it did in the water! Really wish we could’ve had a video that one. A drive by on the deep rigger. Last fish came with 130 feet of cable out another Laker on the Sandburg Mag RV.

Surprised and disappointed we didn’t get more bites but the water has been kind of churned up for a couple of days. At one point when I would slow down, the probe would go from 56 slowing to net it would drop down to 48. Spent most of the day going to .8 to 3.1 on the DRX Dash 10.

I hope to fish again Saturday and will have to make up a couple of more of that ugly flasher that had three nice bites today. The one on the right.

Great day today caught fish 80ft to 260ft 6color to 130ft down.  Flasher flys and spoons.  What an awsome year so far.  We post daily catches and have open dates listed on our Facebook page if anyone wants to get out. https://www.facebook.com/nolanstopguncharters?mibextid=ZbWKwL

I wish we could eliminate full moon! A couple of days ago I tried my first ever night bite and that will be my last effort at that. Totally wiped me out the next day! Really got a taste of humble pie again today!Set lines about 4 miles south of Port Harbor in 75 feet of water 0415. 30 down surprisingly cold at 52°. I was excited to see that unexpected treat of cold water. We were marking some fish, but not much bait. I decided to try shallow before going deeper. Made it into about 55 feet of water and still marking fish but no takers.

Zigged and zagged and watch the sky start to brighton without a bite. Decided to take a south east course and finally got bit 90 feet of water 30 down on a very old Fuzzy Bear magnum blue tail. That fish escaped. Next bite same rod that one didn’t. Doubled the weight of my biggest Coho this year coming in at about 10.5 pounds! Turned around at 120. Had a couple more drive-bys on 175 copper Mag Green Tiger and five color with Agent Orange regular RV. We had about three hook ups and three drive-bys in that area and quiet 45’ so we headed deeper.

An hour or so later finally a 10# Lake Trout on Green flasher Green fly dipsy out 110 feet in about 120 feet of water. And that was it folks! Trolled around for another three hours. Talked to friends out in the 300 to 400 feet of water with two bites another with 9 lines looking for his first bite so it’s not a robust day. Water warmed to 58° down 35 in 140. It was even warmer out in the deep deep water. Kept my speed at the typical 2.8 to 3.1 on my DRX Dash 10.

I know I should just give up the full moon time but the forecast was for such a beautiful day and it was. We still had a great time, and I heard some new stories. Forecast for the next 2 to 3 days not looking like I will be there. Maybe Tuesday. Look out bluegills!

How has the fishing been on the pier ? I know the wind hasn't been exactly what it needs to be. Thinking of giving it a try in the morning.
