Flotation required for all vehicles under 850 pounds on lakes in the City of Madison, which are Wingra, Monona, and Mendota, though it's not a city ordinance it's a county ordinance.  Also ALL other Dane County lakes require flotation if between 750 and 850 pounds. Over 850 pounds, special permit required.  I've even seen a truck plowing snow on Mendota one year for a special event.  But they had a permit for their event.

The weight limit is a county thing and applies to all dane county lakes. The floatation is a madison thing and only applies to Monona and mendota.

Hi everybody do to confusion on 713 or what ever the flotation ordinance is I see it also say 850lbs now is that 850 only for lake Wingra Lake Monona and Lake Mendota for those are the only be ones that require floats. or is the 850 for all Madison Lakes

Ice is looking really good. There’s 8”+. People had four-wheelers and snowmobiles out on the lake today.

I caught three short walleyes in 20’ of water between 2:30-3:30. All 3 came on a dead stick just off bottom.

No problem with wheelers? I was planning going out tomorrow and punching holes across the hole lake in the basin.

Gout out on the ice around 07:30 off of Bible camp. Buddy and I had 4 tip ups and 2 jigging poles fishing shiners and a spoon. Got one small northern at about 30’ on a tip up around 09:30 but nothing else and left at noon. Ice was looking really good around 10” with just a light snow layer
