Lake Onalaska

Ice/Fishing Report from yesterday for those considering fishing here this weekend. Close to a foot of ice still, but it is SOFT. Auger cut through it like butter. Especially with the anticipated 5" of heavy snow tonight, venturing out after this would be a sketchy not being able to see soft spots. Not to mention all the weight of the snow pushing the ice down and added flow due to the precipitation. Might be the end of the ice season for me. Glad I was able to end with a fun outing. Used red worms and caught perch, crappies, and gills.

I know the area sheriff depts and state/fed Wardens like to airboat train on the late ice. Timing sounds about right. 

Driving along the lake this morning didnt see any fisherman out from Schaffers. 4 or 5 airboats out on the perch flat east of the airport lights. Probably guides/clients. 
Honesty,  i would stay off the ice from foot travel from shore. Noticing quite a few open water holes opening up. It's been mild and heavier winds next couple days along with a sizable snow dump later in the week.

Saw a guy with a quad tow an airboat into Fishermans from the main lake then rip back out there hauling ass so I know guys are out there but I didn't personally make the trip.  That said the auger was going through the ice like a hot knife through butter so the end is nigh.  

Does anyone know if they were doing some sort of training or something out there today? or if there was an incident?  There was a rig in the lot on Fisherman's that had an airboat trailer and said Sheriff on it but it didn't look like LaX County, and when I first got out there I could hear sirens coming from what sounded like the lights or up towards Schaefer's.  Then the sirens stopped and a bit later the guy came by towing the airboat.

Does anyone know if the ice is still safe to get out to the lights from Governor Nelson’s state park? Or off of fisherman’s road? I guess which ever is a safer route? TIA!

I went back out for a couple hrs this afternoon. Lots of dinkers again. Kept 4 gills and 4 perch. Ice getting more sketchy. That's a wrap for me!

4 wheeler rescue in the afternoon. Must have went for a swim this morning. Looked like it was floating upside down before recovery. Seen a walker-by in same general area fall thru but was able to get out rather quickly.  All along Rosebud Island south of where Osprey was fishing. It's really never great along the island as there is typically water current nearly year-round.

Fished off Schafer's for a couple hours on Saturday and had a good day! Caught a nice mess of crappies and perch for dinner. Check out the video to see how and where we fished. Still had ?good ice for walking, but ?it is only going to get sketchier. 

Out today for the afternoon. Good bite between 3-4pm but otherwise pretty slow.
Lots of dinks. Came home with 3 gills and 8 perch. Perch action mostly on tipdowns and Rosie's. 11fow out from halfway creek. Ice at 12" but getting soft. Didn't take much effort on the auger. Still a few wheelers out there but I'd  recommend  foot travel.

A buddy was out there last week got a few but on the small side. How about Target lake and the walkout still able to walk out there? Any perch moving in ? 

Sense there is no page for Lawerence lake does anyone know if the bite has gotten better out there yet?
