Not up there but as of yesterday am there was still a lot of ice. Call Cisco lake resort to get an update. (906) 358-4305. Thursday may be tough for ice to be out. My estimate is Sunday Monday. As I was told there was over 20 inches of ice still Sunday.

just got back to the "flatland" before the heat arrives. my wife and i had some good luck with walleyes and bass last weekend. we were fishing at dark with minnow imitating lures on big lake. we limited out friday and saturday nite but the wind switched to the south and was not strong enough to keep the mosquitoes away so we came in early.

For Musky and sometimes Walleye try the shorelines along Big Lake. Good Luck

I'm trying to get some info about fishing the Cisco Chain. Perch, walleye, and muskies. I'll travel anywhere on the chain. I would really like to find some spots off of the beaten path if possible. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Dale

I will be visiting the chain for the first time on open water the week of sept. 2-8. I'm looking for any advice I can get regarding walleye, smallie and musky fishing. I am definitely NOT a meat hunter, so don't worry about me cleaning out the lake. However, my wife will be with me, so it is very important that some fish be caught if I am going to have any chance of spending alot of time on the water. I have ice fished the south end of big lake a few times and had some good luck for walleye. If anyone would like to respond more discreetly, my e-mail address is msander@hotmail.com. I would be happy to share my knowledge of some southern WI fishing spots, (Lake Mendota, Lake WI, Castle Rock) in return if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance

David1888, I fish the Chain for walleyes and if you don't know the Chain really well I'd recommend working the shoreline wood. This is a popular pattern on the Chain. Usually it produces fair numbers of fish, but the size isn't that great (usually just under legal). However, occasionally you will get some decent fish mixed in. At this time of the year I'd strongly recommend being on the water at the crack of dawn, this is very, very important. The bite usually really dies off by 9:00am. After that, if you want to stay on the water look for deeper structure oriented fish (this is a hint, you'll have to find the structure though :-). The other really good time to be on the Chain is at sunset. Start fishing the shores that cast a shadow from the setting sun and once the sun goes past the horizon the action will pick up all over. I've fished the Chain a lot and have always had fair to poor luck under the mid-day sun. Go to town, play golf...but be sure to be on the water at the low light times. I like to use a light (1/16 ounce) timber jig with either a minnow or leech. Have fun.

Best Regards,
