As far as all the fish from the MWC goes. I heard that all of the fish that were not spawned out conservation took and gathered milt and eggs. I'm sure all fish were released back to the river after this process and so will the offspring once the reach proper size.

Well mgrell, their is a 14" min on walleye and sauger on the IL river. If you see people keeping 10" fish then you need to speak up. Those are the people that destroy fisheries! They should be reported and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I have no respect for these scum cause I pay for my lisence and follow the rules and respect the outdoors.

What kind of fish were people keeping under 10in? Personally I thing they should slot the walleye and up the size limit on sauger. The walleye should be slotted from 15in or 16in to 20in with one over 27in. Not to many eyes over 18in are being caught on a regular basis over the last few yrs. We need to build a stronger stock of bigger fish. And as for sauger, 14in is tiny. you dont even get a decent fillet out of them. Im suprised that the sauger population hasnt been wiped out. For two weeks in a row fri sat and sun there was 150 boats out each day most keeping limits of pregnant females. I know there was a bunch of tourneys going on and am not sure if they kept them after tourney was over. Hope not. If so, I understand cause saugers are DELICIOUS!!! Also there should be a size limit for white bass should be 12in. Again anything smaller is a tiny fillet. They barely even get a chance to breed before people harvest them. Ive seen alot of shore fishermen taking 5 and 6in whities. Unreal!!! Hope things change in the future or the IL river is done for. Please dont yell at me. Its only an opinion. thanks

Fist report in almost 11 months on this site. 150 plus boats on the river near/at Starved Rock and no reports. I did very well near the dam and just below the lock near the concrete wall of the lock. Every body I seen had some pretty low faces. I also cannot believe some guys keeping fish under 10". I am hoping there will be a slot limit on fish adjusted to their specie in accordance.

Im assuming you'll be in a boat ... I put in on on the north side at spring valley. Head up river towards starved rock, on the south side of the river just past the lincoln memorial bridge is a creek dumping in to the river --- great place for whitebass at the right time...

The asian carp are always in the shallows on the north side of the river -- a few hundred yards north of the launch up river there are some shallows that the carp hang out in... they almost always jump in the boat if you skirt the line between the barge channel markers and the shallow side....

Not a report, just had a question. I always travel up to the Wisconsin River for walleyes and sauger and thought maybe I should try somewhere closer to home. At starved rock, are the boat launches open all year long? I am thinking about trying to fish walleyes and sauger for the first time at starved rock, any advise would be helpful. Is there a charge to launch at the state park? Thanks in advance for any information.

Right now fish are hitting well all over the river. find a channel that is 12-14' and vertical jig with any shiny jig tipped with a minnow about 12"-24" off the bottom and you will cathch fish. We fished a channel that runs from the vermillion river inlet to the I-39 bridge and did very well just drifting and jigging. Also threw some crank baits for fun and caught fish on them as well. We kept some of the largest fish for a tasty meal, there is nothing wrong with keeping some of what you catch to share with friends & family. Fall fishing is short & sweet, so get out on the water with someone and enjoy life a little. God Bless.

This report is for last Saturday Nov. 14.09 sorry to be a little late but here it is. Had a great time hauled in 7 lost about the same. My girlfriend lost a few as well and hauled in but 1. Hitting very light, so use light tackle, for jigging. It started out with lots of sun and then changed to rain PM, when this happens you simply change tactics. Trolling is not the best option due to the light bitting they are simply to negative for trolling. I seen alot of boats for this time of the year and alot of long faces. So, instead of the long faces don't stay in the same spot or area of the river...move. You can catch Sauger and Walleyes anytime of the year and under any conditions, you simly have to adjust to the mood they are in. The more negative they are in the lighter the tackle you use to feel the bit. This was my first time putting in at Spring Valley, I was impressed as to how nice the set up is for launching. I usually put in at either Starved Rock, Ottawa or Morris. Caught a ton of junk fish. PLEASE REMEMBER TO RELEASE EVERYTHING YOU CATCH. Smile Smile Have a great week.

White bass are still biting, they are scattered however. Seem to have the most luck casting towards shoreline and slow retieve. Best bite has been on Gold & white jigs tipped with minnow. Landed several eyes as well with wolf river rig held just off the bottom with a 24" leader. Plan to hit some other areas this weekend to see if some schools can be located.

Went out on sunday and caught a dozen nice whites and one walleye under the I-39 bridge in a couple hours. We were catching most fish in 8-12' of water throwing jigs with white tails and tipping with minnows. Tried several locations, the fish still seem to be scattered but they are hitting hard when they bite. The bite should be improving as the water temp. stabilizes and we are looking forward to some good fall fishing.

Whites are easy, just cruise around till you find some shad poppin at the surface and throw anything white there way, smaller cranks and blade baits have worked well in the past. (That is for the river). The I&M is another beast all in itself.

fished from about 10 this morning till 3 all we caught were bluegills and all of them were pretty decent size, found a nice spot over on the I and M Canal later in the day but the rain washed us out so we didnt have any time to really test it out. If anyone has any tips on fishing for white bass and catfish on the I and M Canal and Starved Rock please let me know.

Thanks, Tight Lines
