The spawn seems to have been early this year. The first weekend of sturgeon speering we had over 50, mostly males. They were milting heavily. I don't know if it was a false run because of the warm temps we had then ,but I sure would love to get on them again. Any thoughts? Picture is from opening weekend of spearing.
21° - 25° F
Fished Abraham Reef Fri and Sat. No fish. Fri only fished 2 hours from sunset until after dark. On top of shallow part of reef--2' of ice with 3' of water underneath. Did not mark any fish, no hits. Tried various glow in the dark jigs and jigging spoons, tipped with fatheads. Saturday got on the lake earlier, fished about 4 hours, 4-8 pm. Fished NW edge of Abraham Reef in 11' of water--2' ice and 9' water underneath. Fished on rocky bottom. Same jigging program, plus put out tip ups with fatheads. Might have seen a fish or two on the graph, but no hits. Now zero for 5 trips on burbot. One of these days....
Fishlaw. Yes. i was typing on my phone and didnt notice the spelling. Pretty much due East of Wendts. past the island
Steve r: I don't see an Abrams reef on the map. Do you mean Abraham's reef?
I was given a fish from my friend Matt who was fishing Battle on Bago. I never caught one or cleaned one or ate one before so I was really excited to try it!
It's not meant to be a how-to because it was the first time I'd done it, rather just a vlog showcasing my first experience with the fish! Hope you enjoy!
Got one, lost one at the hole and a walleye tonight so far. Abrams reef. The pout were both after dark after everyone except us left
tried just north of island off wednts tonight, never saw a fish. tried 5 spots. are they done?
During Ladies tourney last weekend, a bucket of pouts was brought in. About 5 smaller ones. Caught around rocks on West side. I'm heading out today for a look-see, will report what I find.
