An old friend of mine, mother lived over by otter st in Oshkosh. He use to walk off shore on the ice there a short distance and fish at night for Lawyers and caught all they wanted, they were spawning. The area from the mouth of the river to Merit, close to shore should be good.
Dang. Went out two weeks ago and didn’t mark any; haven’t heard any reports on them until just now.
Thanks, I think I’ll skip the slush then.
You're about 3 weeks late this year. Burbot started spawning the last week of January going into the first week of February this year. Earlier than normal, yes, but by the time the cold snap ended it was well over.
Heading out tomorrow afternoon/evening with my fingers crossed that the spawn is starting and I haven’t missed it!
Flip+Slip, go on YouTube and search Winnebago Bourbot Fishing. There's some real helpful videos on there . Its real good right off the north side of the island in front of Wendts when they come in, but everyone is tight lipped when it's on, just have to go check it out. Good luck.
I’m not asking for any secrets, but I’d like to know what the bait of choice is for burbot. Fished on or near bottom? Fish like whitefish? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
No luck again.
Got out last night from 5-1030. Weather wasn't too bad, but that's the best I could say for it. Tried from 6-12 ft mostly, marked a few , but nothing showing interest. Couldn't say for sure what kind of fish (need to find me a camera, but the world appears to be out of stock, LOL).
As for the spawn question down below, yeah I don't know. Sure seems like a strange year, but hoping the warming trend will prove me wrong.
