MRiesen you should've been in about 35' of water and you were probably marking ether crappies or bluegills. I have had good luck in the past just casting out half a crawler with no weight and letting it free fall to where they are suspended. Good luck and tight lines!
Thanks for your input. My dad's Old electra pal trolling motor gave me problems. Figured out how to go to switch directly with high. So, I can go trolling now but high or nothing and I did borrow a 12' row boat. Picked up a Garmin Striker and found some schools about 100 yes NNE of South Bay. Thinking about going back to waypoint with crawlers and Leeches. Any other advice with current situations. Going to try advice on Wed.
MRiesen if you work the fallen trees and brush along the east Shore there's not Alot but what's there will hold fish you can also work the weed beds by the bay where the beach is. Also try on the west side of the west island. With the size of the equipment you will be fishing out of you may have to limit your timeline to morning and evening as wheeler is a pretty popular recreation lake and there will be plenty of jet ski's and water skiing going on during the day. Also the bait shop in Lakewood is usually pretty good at giving good information as to what's going on as far as the bite is on most of the area lakes. Good luck and tight lines!
I am heading up for a week on the 23rd. My 8 year old loves fishing and I want him to have a blast. Also have a wife that likes to fish as long as we can keep.
Any recommendations? We will have kayaks and an Excursion 5 with trolling motor and will be lodging on East side of Lake.
Going to fish the jamboree tomorrow. A snow/ice update would be greatly appreciated! I will post my experience, first time fishing the lake..
Burm- Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear. How deep was snow? Maybe this warm up will help knock snow down so when we do get cold weather ice can get a chance to freeze.
Was there on saturday and was an adventure to say the least. Could only walk out to 11 feet water and ice was only 3 inches and white. Fished close to shore but the 8 inch hole turns into 12 after all the pressure from the snow. Saw a snowmobile ride the edges but ice was only 5 at max.
How is the snow and slush? Are ATV’s getting around on the area lakes?
There were trucks driving out there today. I was not one of them. Weather is changing this week as there will be rain/snow, and then a cold snap so use caution as always.
What are the current ice conditions?
