Mid summer fishing around Washburn County has been very good the past week. Walleyes and bass are really going good right now. Most fish are coming from the deep weed edge on area lakes in 10 to 15 feet of water. Some nice bluegills and crappies are showing up at times too. Early mornings are the best times now, the bite seems to slow during the middle of the day.

Musky fishing has been picking lately too. Topwaters and bucktails early and late in the day have been catching some good fish. Main lake weeds and rocks are the best locations currently, always check to see if the open water bite is happening also.

Good luck and good fishing!

Plan on staying at cabin a couple days after the hunt to ice fish. I would appreciate reliable info on lake ice. Don't need to know if or where they were biting just want to get on and off ice safely. Be careful !!!

Went and checked a few small lakes and one of the area trout ponds. The small pond had 3.5 inches of ice last Friday and likely have closer to 5 now. The small lakes I checked were around 40 acres and relatively deep. There was a consistent 3.5-4 inches in all the areas I checked. Didn't really get much time to fish though...

Crappie_Slayer,

I've only been fishing for musky this fall so I can't speak from first hand experiance, but crappies should be schooled up over deep basins now. For those in my boat musky's are grabbing suckers.

Good luck!

What kind of fish would be the most beneficial to Target this time of year in the Washburn co. Area? Looking to catch and release anything that would bite. If anyone has recommendations, feel free to respond or pm me. Thanks!

Musky fishing has been good as of late here in Washburn County.  Water temps are falling and the fish have really turned on to the live bait bite.  In my boat we've been focusing on deep weedlines and drop offs in 14 to 20 feet of water.  Suckers in the 12 to 16 inch sizes are working well, vertical jigging Bondy's or Fuzzy Duzzit's is paying off once in a while too.

Good luck and good fishing,

Jim Stroede

Cooler mornings have fish more active. This past weekend was pretty productive with many people out fishing. Not many brag worthy fish but a few for the frying pan. Muskie fisherman have also been moving from lures to live sucker minnows.

Fishing has been tough this week around Washburn County. We've picked up a few walleyes, a few pike, and a few smallmouth on area lakes. Both jigging and trolling have caught fish, but overall its been tough going. The most consistent fishing has been for largemouth bass. Early in the day and again later just before dark it seems the bass get aggressive. We've done well on wacky worms and topwaters. Musky fishing has been tough by and large also, however the evening bite is beginning to pick up a bit. I'm suspecting that when the hot weather breaks and waters cool fishing will pick up nicely.

Hot weather in Washburn County has the fisherman out early in the morning or early in the evening. Weeds have been the hot spots for fishing with many people using weedless hooks and lures. There hasn't been too many monster fish coming off lakes but plenty for the dinner table!

Musky fishing is picking up here in Washburn County. We've been getting bit with bucktails and topwaters mostly, rubber jerkbaits are getting a few looks from bigger fish too.

Largemouth bass continue to be very aggressive both early and late in the day. Wacky worms are great at times but other times they prefer a scum frog or other type of topwater.

Some of the smaller, off the beaten path kind of lakes are really turning on around here, so don't miss out on the action!
