Sorry, not a report just a question. My family and friends used to vacation at Stephens Sky Lodge on Thunder Lake (west of Three Lakes) in the early 70's. Great memories of my brother and me catching many (small) northerns just drifting across the lake on Johnson Silver Minnows.

Thinking of maybe staying up that way next summer. How's fishing these days?

Thanks in advance!

The die off was truly massive. Dead sea out there last year. A few (very) small pike. No panfish of any kind.

Yes in 2014 there was a massive winter kill that virtually wiped out the entire lake.  No idea what the recovery has been.

Haven't been on thunder for ice fishing before and a long time since to the lake at all. Anybody out there have a decent idea of how the fishin has been? Or any decent areas to try for pan fish? Thanks

Got out on Thunder Lake, just a little west of Three Lakes this afternoon. It was too nice to stay indoors today. Wind was about 5-10 mph out of the N.W.. Fished with wigglers, minnows, and wax worms. The fish would chase the minnows, but would not eat them. Wax worms were the king today. The fish liked the baits being slowly lowered, and would bite on the way down. Best way to fish this technique is to watch your line go slack, and set the hook. Crappies, and bluegills. Had to weed out the abundant small ones to get enough for a fish fry. Very easy lake to fish, as most of the lake is 6 to 7 foot deep. Look for the small ice fishing villages, and find a place close by. No need to crowd any one, as the whole lake is good. Good fishing, and take a child fishing. PJ
