Gamefishing isn't open yet.  You can fish Mendota above the dam but I'd just use little panfish stuff.  Doubt very much that you will catch anything there right now.

Don't fish the river below the spillway for a few blocks.  It's a fish sanctuary until opening day.  You will see flags and signs floating in the water.

I've been shining the river a few blocks down on the way to work each night and have not seen any walleye eyes sparkling yet and have not seen any panfish or minnows along any rocks either.

This time of the year if you don't have a boat and are shorefishing I'd find a nice shallow bay and fish in the afternoon after the sun is up for a while.  You might get something in Monona Bay right now.

Is it legal to fish off of the dike? Where would I find some bluegills off shore?

Fished there about a week ago. Got a mixed bag and fishes were pretty active. It might be slow now due to the weather.

Since the end of September, walleyes have been out at night at Tenney Park. Seems to be the case whenever October comes. Channel catfish come every once in awhile. I don't really see anyone fish during the day but at night, there's always a couple of people. Jerkbaits, shallow crankbaits, and live minnows.

The lock itself, the dock area holds a lot of minnows, they look like emerald shiners. Had a couple of muskie follow there at night. Wasn't trying too hard for muskie, but I am sure that you guys who know muskie should be able to get em.

Fish on friends.

Fish Refuge/No fishing signs up at Tenney Park at the lock and all the way down the river. Too bad you can't fish it right now but it's the way it should be if you ask me.
