Thanks for the great info everyone. I appreciate it. Sounds like it might be a long-term project. If somebody local could post when the work is complete and the river has returned to normal levels and flow rate, I'd really appreciate it. Very nice area, and my first outings there were quite successful.

It Would be nice this time if they would let them make it deeper! Last drawdown they had someone willing to do it until they found out he would make profit from the dirt and said no. From what I understand . Lol

Regarding the drawdown I'm sure they need to draw it down as far as possible in order to inspect it.  Here's an article that was in the news about 2 months ago:

The engineering firm I used to work for is the village engineer for Belleville.  I'm sure they'll be the ones inspecting the dam for structural damage.

Normal is much higher than it is now. I'm not sure, I doubt this year.

Any scuttlebutt as to when the river can be expected to return to normal levels? Discounting any unexpected rainfall or drought events of course. Being new to the area, I'm not really sure what normal is.

Herb,

Its going to stay low. The dam is "breached" so they have the flow wide open to drain the river above the dam, so they can monitor the dam...

Golly, folks. Where did your river go? Was down there just last week, it's dropped about two feet since then. Both spots I was going to try above the dam were inaccessible. I set up on the lake side, on a rise overlooking the southwest corner. Caught five small brown bullheads on crawlers, but nothing else. Kind of a bust, unless one is looking to stock up on Flathead baits. Then I moved below the dam. Caught a few carp there, biggest at 6.5 pounds. Also caught a nice 11" sucker, and a few Hornyhead Chubs (new one for me).

Is there an online source I can use to monitor the water levels in that area? Hate to drive down there and find naught but a muddy riverbed.

Got out today despite the wind and miserable cold, I set up above the dam, instead of below, this afternoon. Did pretty well. Banked 12 Carpies on 13 bites in about 2.5 hours. Hit good on Nightcrawlers until I ran out. 4 on those, rest on boilies. Tiger Nut Boilie/Halibut Attractant seemed to be the combo today. Biggest was a 28 incher. Pretty hefty for that length, too. Didn't weigh her but I'd give her 9 pounds at the very least. Try to get out next week to try the lake side.

I meant to check before I left, but is there a fish cleaning station on the island, or anywhere nearby? I caught a few smaller ones in the 1-2 pound range. Might be a good source for Catfish Bait.
