Anyone had any success yet this season?
I fished for a few hours on saturday, upper chippewa river. Caught one sturgeon probably around 40 inches, I didn't measure it. Felt nice to get one in on the season. River was lower than it had been since I was last up little over a month ago. Was kinda surprising with all the rain. I am going to focus most of my time this season on the weekend of the 21st-23rd. Full moon, I will be up all night fishing. Hoping to catch an elusive 60+ incher.
Takeing a poll on favorite set up & bait?
Well this is my first time targeting these dinosaurs. Zero Interest in keeping one but would like to catch my first lake sturgeon. I live near the lower Wisconsin river so fishing Mazo to the dam or lake Wisconsin would be great! Any ideas where to find them? I’m assuming some of the deeper water in the river below the dam and downstream. I have some heavier sized hooks with 2oz no roll sinkers. Was planning on throwing a couple crawlers on size 2 catfish hook and seeing what happens. Do they really only bite at night? Water was too damn high for me to get my boat out today unfortunately. Any tips would be awesome! Pretty much fish the area for bass and walleyes.
Pb 2 yrs ago forgot net chased him down & he jumped in the boat.
I will b on the Menomonee the 19 - 23. Will report when I get back.
I wish Sturgeon fishing wasn't so tight lipped, or maybe it is just because the season is so short? Who knows? It is my favorite fishing by far and creates some great stories. Maybe I should create a Facebook group? Anyone interested? I will keep this report open for the next few weeks to see if we can have some good 'Sturgeon Fishing' sharing going on.
