Spent the first week of October fishing Big Round Lake.  In spite of the cold and periodic rain, we managed to land many smallies, some northerns, a few rock bass, crappies and perch.  Floating jigs, and large mini mites tipped with a large minnow worked best for the smallies.  Large mini mites tipped with a minnow worked for the northerns.  Crappies and perch were hitting drop shot rigs in 17 fow.  Already looking forward to next year.  Tight lines !  IC

Just completed a week of fun on Big Round. Plenty of nice sized smallies for everyone. Used floating jigs of various colors with half ounce walking weights, tipped with a medium size minnow. Also used a 1/16 oz mini mite with a small fathead. Both presentations worked well. Got some nice walleyes also. Northerns were thin but fun to catch. Tough weather from Tuesday on. Snow on the ground Friday night into Saturday. One smallie was 23 inches and well over 6 pounds. Fished the entire lake, but stayed mostly in the 13-20 foot range drifting and back trolling. Helped the locals by contributing at LCO and dining in town. See you next year ! IC

Heading up to Hayward and Big Round in 10 days. Any fish action reports would be greatly appreciated. Big Round is a very good smallie lake, as walleyes are much less plentiful. Looking forward to the trip. Thanks for the help and info in advance. See you at LCO. IC
