Sunrise Resort is open this winter, easy lake access!
Posting report from our guest last week:
Spent Thursday night, Friday, Saturday in the northwoods and stayed at the Sunrise Resort on PI, which I have stayed many times before. Great location, and the owners are always very accommodating.
Went out Thursday night with spud bar to check ice. Solid 3-5" all along shorelines, but beyond 80 yards give or take, very thin ice under the heavy snow cover, and not safe to walk on. Ice was marginally thicker when I left this morning.
Three of us set up tip-ups on and around the rock bar right in front of our cabin. We had consistent action both days/nights. Bite stopped during the middle of the day each day, but would pick up again at dusk. Best action after dark.
All in we caught around 20 walleye and missed just as many. Lots of little guys, but we did have a few nicer fish mixed in. Big one of the weekend was 22".
The resort is set-up very nicely with a large heated community room, so we left the ice shanties at home. Can't beat the convenience of watching tip-ups from the cabin or in front of the fireplace!
This lake gets hit pretty hard by the spear, which is unfortunate. Catch and release only for us, and encourage others to do the same.
That's my ice fishing trip for the year. Good luck out there!
