Public access at state parks is a great thing...$28 a year...truly public access. If the state wants to start limiting access to lake's they should do so in a way supported by the majority of Wisconsinites. Who has access to the lake should never be about who lives on the lake or how private launches are managed and utilized...and I say that as someone who has lakefrontage. I'm very fortunate now, but growing up as a kid there were times when launch fees were a consideration, and even now $15 doesn't mean much, but it pisses me off when it's the only option to launch on a lake.
With another launch this lake will become flat out dangerous, I can remember when I was a kid on this lake one Saturday where we were skiing and tubing, my dad being the expert boatman he was told us after a couple a trips we were done for the day, the boat traffic even back then was dangerous, we went out for one last ride and had a skier in front of us, Dad saw her , she went down and the boat didn't see her go down but my dad did and stayed there until she was safe and now you bring in the huge wake boats everyone seems to have on that small of an area and I could see a few boats capsizing because of the huge waves they make or worse a few people getting hurt because of the traffic. That's just my two cents , even being just minutes away from this lake , I don't fish it or boat on it because it's just too small.
The DNR really needs to stock fish in this dead sea when they finish that stupid state launch.
Any word on the state launch? Did it open? And current water temp?
Plenty of ways limit access to a lake in a fair and equitable manner. Public access to our waters is always a good thing.
I guess I don’t get the...a launch at the state park will end the world...the way I see it, there will be limited parking spots for trailers, unlike Reef Point who packs them in as many as they can to make more money. And I just don’t see a launch at the state park adding to anymore boats on the lake...it’s not like someone is going to get up in the morning and say oh there’s a another launch on the lake let’s go!! If they going to the lake they would go regardless of how many launches there are, its not like reef point ever turned someone away cause the lot was full, ever been there on a Saturday afternoon in summer??
And if you feel the lake is fished out, there are plenty of other lakes to go to in the kettle moraine, I have never had a problem getting enough for a meal if I wanted out there.
Just what this fished out lake needs a new DNR launch. What a zoo, this lake will be completely dangerous on summer weekends.Lame.
Did the launch at the state park get done? Thought it was supposed to be completed by this spring, I don’t fish the lake much but we usually do a couple family picnics out there and I bring the boat out to pull the kids on the tube. A launch at the park would be nice. I usually go to Johnny’s but the only thing I never liked about his launch was it was to narrow, the trailer tires only had a few inches on each side to fit down.
Ice is completely dangerous, do not go out!! Head north if you want to ice fish. I will be kayaking this weekend in Waukesha County
