Finished up an incredibly nice week weatherwise for our first trip to Pickerel. Didn't get out fishing as much as I wanted, but as much as I could. Hard to pass up swimming with the kids with the weather we had and roasting marshmellows at primetime.

Unfortunately no muskies (limited effort) or eyes and less northerns than I would've expected. Found most of our action in one spot, but that's part of the fun learning a new lake. Some leisure boat traffic and a few fisherman but nothing crazy. Some nice white and black crappie. Hoping to come back next year or this winter in search of eyes and northern. Thanks to those that reached out for tips.

Got out a couple times this week. First trip a mid morning search for spots, no fish. 2and morning tried a couple days out of the wind and just some small gills.

Persistence rewarded yesterday as we found a good spot, yielding a gill, a small northern. 4 9-10" perch, a couple white crappies and 10 dandy black crappies 11-13". Kept half a dozen for fish fry tonight. One of the white crappies leaked a little eggs which I thought was odd.

No luck casting for northern/bass/walleye. Tried mepps, rapala, swim baits, soft baits and everything else in the box with no luck.

Taking it easy today and taking kids out for a bit. Hoping to get out at day break tomorrow and if we do decent, target eyes and skis at dusk but not sure where to try.

Fantastic weather this week. Tight lines

Thanks all for tips and guidance. Can't wait to head up Saturday for the week, weather looks great. Tackle box is all set and rods are rigged up. Hoping to get out a few times with my dad and solo and then most of the time will be just pan fishing with the kids....hopefully they are in shallow. I will try to report a couple times as time allows.

Fishing dad  i hired a guide by the name of Mike Bowen 2yrs. ago.I thought he was a pretty good guy and we did well fishing. I think if he is still guiding you could call Kurts sports shop in Minocqua and they could get you in touch with him.

I know he seemed to fish mostly Minocqua-St-germain area and south.

If anyone is willing to help us with some spots on the lake to check out during our family trip and willing to accept beer, venison, or a chartered trip on lake michigan for your efforts you can pm me.

Hoping the fishing is decent and the water warms up over the next month!

Since it's too miserable out to go fishing today it's a good day to dream about upcoming trips.

Going with the family for our annual trip to the area and will be staying at a new place on Pickerel Lake. As much as I enjoy the challenge of a new lake, having three kids and the wife along really limits fishing time.

That said, anyone have a guide(s) they recommend specific for this lake that could take out me and my old man? Someone easy going, doesn't have to be anything fancy.

My thought being to get out early in the week with someone to show us the ropes and then go from there. I am an avid fisherman but the kiddos, dad, and wife will be watching bobbers and not chucking musky baits.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations. Tight lines!!

Uncle Muncle...do you know the name of the resort you stayed at?  Actually would like to fish plum and this lake as well.  Did you have direct access to Pickeral from your cabin?  That would be pretty awesome if you did.

Thanks

Spent the week on the lake renting a cabin with the family from 12/23-12/29. This was a new lake to us and we had a blast. Probably about 6" of actual ice and another 5" or more of frozen slush. We fished the southern area of the lake. Lots of perch closer in and very nice suspended crappies once you get out to about 20'. We caught a lot of crappie and I don't think we caught anything smaller than 10". Dad lost what was probably a 14" crappie at the hole. My fiance lost a very nice perch at the hole on a tip up (probably 11"). Other than that, we didn't produce much on tip-ups besides two pike close to shore. Using our flashers in the 20' areas at night was pointless due to lots of what we thought were baitfish lighting up our screens. Regardless, we thought it was great fishing.
