Bofish, I'm not sure moon cycle has any effect.  Water temp is key.

Your question on weather walleye depend on current or temperature to set off the spawn. The spawn is dependent on water temperature.  42 to 45 degree water Temps will kick things off regardless of the water levels or current. If they don't have adequate water up stream, the will look for the next best location which is most likely going to be off the pier heads or upstream as far as they can get where they have a little current with a gravel bottom. I fished the Mississippi this last weekend. Water Temps were up to 37.5 degrees. Walleyes are staging and ready to pop.

I think as a protection for the eggs-moon cycles play a role too

Stopped by the launch below the dam today. Water is open but really low and slow, the pier is in. Been getting questions on weather I think the run will be early. I really don't think so in my un-educated opinion. Granted it's been crazy warm but there is also no big snow melt this year which means no current. Is it just the warm water the starts the run or the normal high current that sparks the fish to head upstream?? I guess we'll wait and see.

Looks real low. Could be one of those years.

Go to USGS for your dam location . You can check current flow of river and water temp at specific dam location. Water temps will be warmer earlier with lack of ice and forecasted high temps for next 2 weeks. So maybe!?

So.. with this record warm winter there any ice on the river yet? Most years the walleye run isn’t until beginning of April but the rate it’s going it could start mid March?

Was on the Oconto Tuesday late afternoon and there were some scattered in there but not real thick and would guess the Peshtigo would be similar.  Would guess the rain today and tomorrow would bring some more in? But maybe its just an off year as the last two years were very good

I was wondering the same thing. There are some in there every year but they say the even years are better. I’ll swing by and check it out in a bit and let you know if I see any.
