Here is the report.

I fished with streamers from 9 am to 3pm. Got 1 walleye, 5-6 SMB and 2 LMB. The biggest fish was a smallie around 1lb.

Noob...not sure about that section of the river but just down stream between the Sandstone and Potato Rapids dams where I'm at it's the lowest it's been in years. That's not necessarily a bad thing, the fish have nowhere to go except in the deeper holes. I would work on all the outside bends in the river which are typically the deeper holes. I don't fly fish very often but if I was using a spinning rod it would be with a #3 Mepps black fury.  Good luck, post how you do.

Hi all,

I am going to fish downstream from Johnson Falls State Natural Area later this week. Will be using my fly road with streamers, maybe nymphing. This is my first time fishing this area, any advice will be appreciated. I am not targeting any special kind of fish, I just want to have some fun, as this part of Peshtigo River looks amazing.

Is the river easy to wade ? Do I need to be careful for wildlife ? How is the fishing pressure at the moment? My guess is that I will mainly catch bass but I am hoping for some brown.

 Tight lines!

Fished from 11am -5:30 on Sunday the 18th. Started out driving all around just out the mouth in 6-12‘ but couldn’t mark a fish so we ventured just into the mouth and caught a sucker. The direct harsh east wind kept pushing us up onto the long 3-4’ sandy flat just northeast of the launch, we had a blast catching many pike up on there. We made several passes until the waves got to be just a little too much. Never caught a walleye but a guy in the boat next to us got a nice one. Was awesome watching him and what looked to be his two grandkids catching lots of fish on a sunny day!

Launched and fished out by the mouth today, pretty chilly to start but warmed up quick. Trolled from 4 feet out to 15 and never had a hit. Tried a bunch of different setups and baits but nothing to show for it. Jigged in the river for a bit before leaving and didn't mark a fish. A dozen or so boats around all day, never saw a net go out. Water temp started at 47, was 52 when I left.

Late report:

Fished on 4-6 - found some deeper water downstream from city launch and got into them good in the afternoon before the front moved in.  Biggest 26.6” spawned out female.

4-7 launched off BB - one nice fish close to launch and a 27” at the mouth.

Sounds like I got lucky. I see water has come up 2.5 feet and temps down 4-5 degree since then. Two buds there now, hope their getting some nibbles.

Stopped at viewing bridge on 4-7 - unbeleivable.

Fished this weekend and the bite was terrible. Saw 1 walleye caught in the 200+ boats that were out. Water temperature was 50 degrees, the spawn is over. If you weren't here when it got warm at the first couple days of April you missed the run. The fish were here and then gone quickly.
