The walleye run is done. I stopped by the viewing bridge today and there are thousands of suckers up by the dam along with very many huge sturgeon. If you have never seen it when they all come up to the dam it's quite a site to see.

I stand corrected.  You guys are correct.  There is a Note on page 83 that neither the Menominee nor the Fox are considered tributary streams.  Those do indeed fall under different special regulations on page 74 and 88, respectively.

However, it appears to me that you should take that first fish home before you head to the second river.  Otherwise, you would be possessing two fish which would exceed the total daily bag limit described on page 16.  Additionally, the Michigan/Wisconsin boundary water possession limit is the same as the daily bag limit.  So, it could be an interesting discussion if you have two walleyes in possession at the Menominee River.

Best to read the regulations booklet (more than twice in my case) than to go on a Warden’s advice from years ago since these rules can change.  Better yet to practice catch and release!

Grey beard I was also told that by a game warden 5 years ago at the Peshtigo parking lot as I was confused. Idk how you’d regulate that but that’s what he told me since the Menominee was a boundary water and had different regulations

Most of the time I am able to resist getting into these discussions about limits because it usually doesn't go anywhere. Here goes.

I fished there in the late 80s, the 90s and in the 2000s and until about 8 years ago. Then all the chaos drove me away. I was told back then by a DNR person that the Menominee is different because it is a boundary water river. So if you kept a walleye from the Peshtigo or WI water on the Bay, and you placed it in your truck you could still fish that same day on the Menominee. If you also had a Michigan license you could go over to Michigan waters of the Bay Green Bay and catch another one.

Seems like a lot of work to get a little extra meat.

Both rivers are major tributaries of Green Bay.  The daily limit is 1 walleye for that class of waters.

Thinking someone can keep 1 walleye from each river on the same day is akin to keeping multiple daily limits from fishing multiple inland lakes on the same day.  Just because some folks may do that doesn’t make it legal.

CCLUND is correct. One fish per day. No hopping around. Good luck.

It is 1 fish regardless where you catch it. You can catch another but it must be the next day.

ayeFeesh,

Am I understanding you correctly, that if you catch&keep 1 legal fish in the river in Marinette, then you cannot drive to Peshtigo to catch&keep 1 also?  Because it is all part of the same system, namely the Bay and it's tributaries?  Or would this be legal?  I know that it is fairly common for people to do this.
TIA for the info!

The walleye limit is one over 15". Once you keep your fish you are done walleye fishing the bay and its tributaries.

The walleyes are wrapping up their spawn currently.

Getting out for first time this year on Friday. What are the regulations this year with the new bag limits, and do we still need to stop fishing after we have caught ours?
