Just visiting here but watched a guy catching yellow perch off the marina pier yesterday, October 30. Using small minnows right off the bottom, no bobber. Keepers were not plentiful from what I saw. Huge schools of shiners around the piers and from what I was told, the perch were following the minnows in. Big surprise as I'd always thought the perch moved out into deeper water by the end of October if not way before. Have to bring a rod next time and maybe some waxies and spikes under a slip bobber. Looks like some culling but one fresh perch fry back at the Inn would be great. Good to see perch again, they're hard to come by in lake Michigan. Tight lines.

JoeHahn, If you're going for smallies with a boat go out to the reefs in the Strawberry Islands area. Jigs with crawlers or leaches will work 7-20 fow. Or try Hat island If you're fishing from shore try Anderson Dock in Ephraim.I fished out of Fish Creek last weekend and when we located them we had great action.

I Hate doing this, but.....

Heading up to Door County near Whitefish Dunes this coming weekend, and would love to hook into some perch from shore. I see the reports for Egg Harbor and Sturgeon Bay, but they're a year old at least. Can anyone please offer me any advice on where/when/what? Will have a youngun along that would love to see some plunging bobbers!

Thanks in advance!

actually this is a report for egg harbor. Was out July 1 ; there were 3 of us fishing by the finger piers. we caught 50 keepers size perch and probably 100 of throw back at 4 to 8 inchers. really great time. 1 bass legal at 221/4 inch. all were caught on fat head minnows and bobbers.... July 2nd almost repeated but no keeper bass this time. Now have to go back to milwaukee and wont be back till late august. tight lines and down bobbers to all.

Went out from 12:30-3:00 this afternoon and caught 12 perch. Only 3 worth keeping. I was fishing in Sturgeon Bay just below the Bayview Bridge. Has anyone had any luck in Sturgeon Bay of luck. I have been catching a lot of the small ones.

I have a minnow trap and use large fatheads. They also like crawlers ( so do gobbies). If I can get them , they love crawdad; crayfish; tails. cant use the whole thing or the DNR will not like you; unless you catch it in the water your fishing in. cant transport live ones for bait and use them live like minnows.
