Sun warmed up Silver Lake over the weekend, just in time to get gills up shallow and into nets. Transplanted 600-800 to Pauquette Park pond. Some fat bullheads, crappies too. Kids fishing day next Sunday, put on by Elks Club.

Last week water still a bit cold for netting gills in shallows @ Silver L. But, managed to get a few hundred along with some larger crappies and few fat bullheads to put in bridal pond at Pauquette Park for kiddie fishing day next Sun. Osprey been raiding the pond lately, they are welcome to a few also.

Musky Club is no more but, couple buddies, my son and I hauled nets full of gills, crappies and one huge yellow bullhead to the Pond for the kids to  have a sure chance at some fish in a couple weeks.

Water got too cold last couple nights, put the fish out into deeper water out of reach of nets but, managed to net few hundred panfish from Lake to put into the pond. Plenty of fish in pond that over wintered according to reports from some who have kids fishing there recently. Most of the gills planted were pretty small, need warmer temps to catch the bigger ones. But, if kids catch some the few dozen crappies we put in, they will have fun! Several deserve a trip to taxidermist. About 3 doz from 12-16+in. Many in 8-10in range too.

Will set a couple fyke nets in Silver Lake tomorrow. Will pull them Wed or Thur and haul panfish across town to the park pond for kids fishing. Could use a hand pulling nets, get heavy when full of fish. Also, transfering them from boat to tank trailer and into pond quickly so they do not get stressed too bad. Kids like to watch and see the turtles and gamefish we release. They get a kick out of lifting landing nets full of fish into trailer...

With DNR assistance the Portage Area Musky Club dumped around 1200 gills in the pond today, pretty decent size on em this year, few dozen nice crappies too. Hope they will bite on Sunday for the kids fishing day the Elks Club is hosting.

Went fishing today from 4:30 to 5:15. Caught NOTHING. Water was very high. Very windy out there today. I did notice last summer that there was a nice size Pike swimming around. I'm hoping he's still in there. I know this pond has some nice size fish with a variety. Maybe things will be better next week?

Was all set to net some stunted gills from Silver L. for dumping in the kiddie fishing pond as usuall. Does not look like it will happen this year.

Due to Viral Hemoragic Septiciemia scare, DNR will not allow transport of live fish anywhere at this time.

I expect there are plenty in there yet but, always nice to dump a few more in to be sure.

Kids fishing day June 3rd.
