casting is effective after the spawn but so is trolling, a lot of guys now are trolling to the south of oconto, side scan side scan side scan is what i always tell people. cast at them or troll them until you find an active group of fish. plastics are more of a prespawn bite so now i would be throwing rippin raps. the best landing in the area is Breakwater Park (1301 Harbor Road, Oconto WI 54153). the best bait shop in NE wisconsin is right in oconto, Northshore Bait Co., tons of knowledge there for everything in the bay. he is closed this week due family but should be open this weekend if you will still be around then. support local is what i always say! awesome selection of custom baits and plenty of other tackle many places dont have right now. good luck

Launched out this morning, water temp varied from 47-54 as the day warmed. Trolled flickers until 2 when the wind picked up and we got on some fish. Another great day regardless of the catch.

The walleye bite in Oconto has picked up with the rising water temps.  From last Friday until Wednesday, water temps rose from 38 to 48 mainlake temps and in the low 50's in the rivers.  Last week most of our fish were prespawn, with many 22-25" healthy female walleyes.  This week, we are seeing many bigger fish that are spawned out.  Yesterday, my crew of Jay, Jayson, and Kent had 24 walleyes, with several in the 26-29" range.  All of these fish were spawned out, and found by moving and casting rippin raps around sand, hard bottom, and north shore flats.  Based on this weekend's weather, I'm expecting the bite to get tough, as cloudy skies, occastional rain, and cool E-NE winds will drop water temperatures.

I still have a couple of openings in the next 2-3 weeks in April.  Capt Jerry
