Fish from 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM. Ice was between 6” and 7” everywhere we drilled. The area by the boat launch that was not walkable 4 weeks ago is now 6”. There were a lot of people driving full-size vehicles out there and a few had shacks/campers in tow. Managed to get three flags and landed 2 24” & 1 37” northern pike. The fisheree is tomorrow and I’m sure that there’ll be a bunch of people AND several vehicles on the ice. Be careful folks! Air temperature was 14 degrees. The wind picked up in the afternoon and forced us inside the shack. Caught the pike on large shiners and tip ups. Jigged for a while too but didn’t mark any fish on Vexilar and not a bite. Did pull 2 tip ups after lunch and tried 2 tip downs with rosies but no luck. The bait store in town has a good selection of tackle and they said their bait delivery was due today. The live bait we used was all hearty. Good luck if you’re headed to the fisheree. Tight lines.
11° - 15° F
31° - 35° F
Fished from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm today. Ice was 5” - 6” everywhere I drilled. Set up in 5’ of water across from the boat landing and fished shiners 2’ under the ice. Had 6 tip ups between us and had 6 flags. Caught 6 northerns between 18” - 26”. The ice is solid on that side but on the boat landing side it’s mostly slush. Can’t fish from that side. 2 guys were jigging 5’ deep and had 10-12 really nice pumpkin seed. I want to thank those 2 guys. They must’ve found my ice cleats that fell off on my way from the truck. I looked everywhere and when we got back to the truck the cleats were stacked up by the tailgate. That was a great coaching tool for me to show my son. He exclaimed “wow that was nice of them dad”. I told him “ that’s what ice fisherman do for one another”. Overall, great day with him. He was impressed with the number of pike. The bait store in Oxford (The Minnow Bucket) was well stocked and he was a very helpful guy. Shared a map with me and let me know about how poor the ice has been near the boat landing.
Anybody know ice conditions?
Open water by landing today. I would not trust it yet.
Thank you appreciate will be around there on Sunday wanted to try it again
I would agree we the you on that it has gotten worse over the years but I'm not over 40 so idon know about back then I've never fished it just drive past every day so I was wondering how bad it is some specices don't get affected by it in some lakes
Good luck finding a lake around that has fish without you must not be much of a fisherman only been like that for 40 plus years and only getting worse
wouldnt doubt it....catch one and cut it open to find out
