Hey folks just curious how the travel conditions are around alma, maybe around buffalo city/spring lake. Im from eau claire and i drove around chetek area yesterday and its a complete nightmare on the ice. Cant imagine there will be much fishable ice unless youre willing to where hip boots. serious serious water, slush on the ice. Anyways i thought id ask before coming downweds or thurs. Also was wondering if there are any bait dealers from alma south?

Thanks Cronk

Stay safe and good fishin!!

Yes lots of people on Saturday. I was in the area hunting. I would not walk across the railroad tracks, unless you want a trespassing fine

Carpio...

The long walk and the dyke road are two different things.  The dyke road refers to hwy 25 between Wabasha, MN and Nelson, WI.  The long walk is actually a couple of miles south of Nelson on hwy 35.  If there is anyone going out the long walk, you'll see them parked on the west side of 35 just south of a house or farm.  I haven't done the long walk in like 15 years so I don't remember it exactly.  But you walked along the property line and then across the rr tracks.  As far as the dyke road goes, you'll see people parked all along the highway and at the different launch points.  It will also be quite obvious where people are fishing.  I'd also add that I doubt people without air boats are fishing the spot they call "the long walk".  It's 3 miles from Wabasha to Nelson so as you can see by the pic, it is like a mile and a half walk.  Over moving water.  Oh, and somewhere to the south of the long walk, is a place they call THE SPRINGS.   So if you're going out there at early ice like now, I'd have multiple people with LFR's.  (long F'n ropes)  Of course, now too you have the Railroad tracks issue.  I don't know if the cops are patrolling that area for people crossing the tracks.  And as far as spots, there's a few more you can see from the road as you move down river towards Alma.  Which is about 8 or 10 miles down river from Nelson.
