With a boat your size,a west wind will help enjoy the fishing instead of being battered by waves all day.
You don't mention what time of year you plan on fishing.
Follow your electronics and the Gulls where baitfish are.
From your post, you pretty much seem to know what you're doing.
CLOSE TO THE LAKE!

I need some advice gentlemen. I finally ordered a new boat, 16.5 ft deep V with a 90 Merc. Troll control being added. I'd like to hit the big water at times and my plan of attack is this. A pair of 5 core fished naked with spoons, either out the back or on boards, a pair of magnum dipsys and a pair of #1 dipsys. Dodgers, flashers and spin doctors of course with flies, peanut flies and spoons. This should be all I need. No plan to get down riggers. I've fished salmon before. A few charters and back in the day, my uncle had the Lady Lou in Algoma. Back when paper graphs and Loran were the thing. My question is, when I leave the harbor, which direction and what depth of water am I looking for to get started. And, about how far out? Any advice to this old fart would be greatly appreciated.

The Harbor was on fire before this last batch of rain.
Should be clearing up in a few days with the stable weather on the way.
I was out  Tuesday and it was rough, you could see the " Mud Line" but the wind was too much.

THIS WEEKEND!

15th Annual Salmon School

When: Saturday, March 16th, 9am-3pm please arrive early to get your handouts. Lunch will be served around noon.

Where: South Milwaukee Yacht Club 101 Marshall Ave. South Milwaukee, WI 53172

Cost: $75 per person. Includes instruction, coffeeand doughnuts to start your day. Lunch will be provided! Cash bar available.

In past years Salmon School was at R&R the Fishin’ Hole. Due to their new location and smaller space, we have moved locations for the second year. Fortunately, Roger will still be involved. We thank him for that!

This class will cover everything from basic set ups to advanced trolling tactics to make you a better salmon and trout fisherman on Lake Michigan. We will begin with early spring Brown Trout fishing and take you through each separate species throughout the season covering how to target Coho, Chinook, Rainbow Trout, and Lake Trout. This is my 15th year doing these classes. I have had great feedback on how it helps cut the learning curve for fishing the big lake and how much money it saves in the long run. We will help you understand fish movements, water temperatures, using your electronics, bait choices and everything in between. I am also going to take the time to explain a little bit about how fish stocking affects our fishery from year to year and some other science stuff!

NEW!!!!! We have added a new speaker to the lineup! Captain Brent Narloch of Sunrise Charters, local charter captain and great fisherman will discuss his take on day-to-day tactics and trends we experienced last season! Truly an outside the box thinker with great info.

Prior reservations are recommended to secure your spot.

To reserve your spot please give me a call Jason @ 414-384-8096 or send an email to  [email protected] .

WE look forward to seeing you!!

Fished this morning with my 2 sons.  There is a great launch right downtown at the end of Bruce St.  2 slots with a pier, porta potty and parking on the street.  Lots of boats out.  Most were jigging with plastic or minnows.  The hot water discharge area was busy early.  Many boats were trolling after 7:30. There were some caught but not for us today.  A very nice day out.  Only got to fish a couple of hours cuz the boys had commitments.   BB
