I used to fish this lake while I was in college at UW Whitewater. This lake is the reason I bought a Vexilar! I had a friend who had one and he was marking fish 10 feet off the bottom. So I quickly moved my jig up 10 feet, roughly, and put the line in the little holder on the reel spool and immediately started catching fish! Used to do this out on Pleasant Lake in Walworth County as well. I was quite impressed how well a flasher worked in deeper water. Shallow water, not so much. I still don't use it when I'm in 6 feet or less.
Late report from sunday on the ice at 6am off at noon group of 6 guys. 3 northern, 2 nice perch and 1 small crappie and so many potato size bluegill to keep anyone entertained. We jigged in 18ft of water most gills were suspended 5 ft below ice, with the perch on bottom. Love this lake plan to take my kids out for first time next year here now that they are getting old enough. Without a vexilar I would have never guessed the gills suspended so high out here
I generally fish afternoons and into the dark. There are some very large crappies and pumpkinseeds that get to 10” in hope. I seldom use live bait I’ve gone to bevertail bait at hope. Seems to weed out the small gills and seeds. Also saw a guy with a ponytail there the other day who had 6-8 perch close to 12”. So there is that!
Candle wood and Bgame, what times were you out there? I was out that same day in the early morning and we got 14. I want to take the kids, but they dont want to get up so early. Wondering if the afternoon was just as good.
Spent all day fishing in various locations on the lake . Caught a lot of pan fish . The biggest was a 7.25 inch pumpkin seed . The next biggest was one 6.75 inch gill . Caught 2 6.25 inch gills . Everything else was 6 inches or smaller . The average was 4.5 inch blue gills and dozens of them . Bring lots of bait if you come . It’s not a lake to fish if you are looking for a meal.
Plenty of nice fish in Hope. You simply need to adjust your tactics to weed out the runts.

Went fishing on Hope lake near Cambridge/Jefferson this morning. Fish were biting from 8:00 to 10:30. I got 9 and my cousin got 5. Only 1 keeper. No luck on the tip ups. If you want to take fish home to eat this is not the place to go. If you just want to have fun bringing in fish then this place is a hidden Jem. Great for kids. Besides the ones we actually caught we had tons of bites. Parking was only $4.00 at the farm on the lake. We are hoping to go again in 2 weeks.
Access is thru the farmers yard on the east side of the lake. Haven't been there in a few years ,but always had a coffee can up by the barn too pay for parking . Farm is just b4 the curve in the road coming from Hwy. A on the right .Hope lake Rd.
Can anyone tell me how to get into this lake. I've never been there. Is the public access, or where do you park?
