Went out today. Hemlock was about 7-8 feet below normal. Over half is completely dry.  I found out it was drawn down due to erosion at the dam. Won't be fishing there for a while.

Went out Saturday afternoon. The slough was pretty busy (8 vehicles), but we went out anyways. My brother and I set out 5 tip ups and caught 4 pike between 22" and 25"...nice fish but not quite long enough to keep! Oh well...never got a nibble on the jig pole with mousies, but that was more of a time killer anyways. It was a nice day to be out on the lake tho and since we never get snow until January, you could see through the 5-6" of glassy ice and see the fish swimming in the shallow water (2-3 feet). It was pretty cool. I am hoping to get out again in the next couple weeks, but sounds like we are going to lose a lot of ice this week with warm temps and rain. Be careful if you go out later in the week!! Tight lines!

try using a bigger shiner..we used them in the 5-6" range...theyre in there...you just hafta wait them out....if you use 3-4" shiners, youll never catch the bigger pike..common sense should tell u that!!!

Hemlock is not listed in the Special Regulations Section under Sauk County in the 05-06 Fishing Regs, therefore i am under the assumption that i can go by the "General Inland Waters" regulations for Pike south of Hwy. 10...which reads "May 7-March 5, 2 fish over 26" may be kept" (page 48)...according to this general regulation, we dont have any problem with the fish we kept, and to be honest, they should make life easier and just post the length limits down there!!! so, dont say i didnt know what i was doing, because it sounds like someone else should brush up on the regs before pointing fingers at others...and seriously try the bigger shiners...we got ours at hartjes in lavalle...they call 'em "Slab Shiners" or something of the sort...also, try fishing shallow...in 2-3 feet of water and put your shiners 6" under the ice and dont use a leader!! bigger fish are more spooky and they notice the big shiny leader!!!

Had a good timey on Hemlock this weekend...over 30 flags...caught 19 pike...panfish were biting as well, but were small except for one 11" perch that hit a tip-up shiner. we caught enough panfish for a limit, but they werent worth filleting, so they got thrown back...kept a couple of the pike for pickling...great time! Ill be back to fish this place again...i wouldnt recommend going down the hill unless you have a 4WD vehicle...it is VERY snowy and icy on the road going in!!!!
