Fished here tonight for the first time. The lake wasn’t what I expected...I was thinking large chunk rock, boulders, etc...seemed more like gravel with stone scattered. Weeds did not appear to be too common. I did find some weeds and they appeared to be thin. Of course there were areas with pads. I didn’t have much time so I didn’t graph, I just fished. weather was warm, 80ish and sunny with no clouds in the sky. Nice N-NW wind. Water temps were 74-75. I fished from 5pm-845pm. I ended up with 16 smallies and a lone rock bass.
I started out fished pads and shallow weeds, docks, shoreline wood hoping for a largie. I threw a jig, frog, and wacky. Nothing but some panfish biting.
Move deeper and threw for smallies. I did like the offshore structure I did find, but smallies were very scattered. Tonight was the lightest bite I’ve had all year. I’d randomly feel dead weight, and most times I missed or my bait was dropped. Once hooked, the fight was normal. But getting them hooked was tough. I’d only have 1 bite per area.
The last hour it picked up. The bite was as it should be, and I didn’t miss much. Nothing huge, biggest was around 16 inches but most were 13-16. Fish were chunky. Threw a ton of baits, but best luck was on a drop shot.
I was surprised I only got 1 rockbass and no other gamefish other then the smallies. What’s all in here? Anyone catch anything big outta here? Between spots, I did have a ton of marks out in 25-35 FOW, on the bottom and looked good size. I did see a ton of suspended bait balls, not overly large in size, but a lot of them throughout the lake suspended. I’m guessing The lower marks were walleyes? Maybe smallies? I guess I’ll have to try it again out here! Any info of tips would be great! It is a pretty lake, super clear.
