This warm weather has taken its toll on the ice but it’s still holding. We definitely lost ice compared to the last time i was out but it looks like we finally have some colder ice making weather on the way! Praying that forecast holds true so we can ice fish in to March.

Obviously with the warm up i would not suggest machines on the ice from now on unless we miraculously get a blast of cold weather in the middle to end of February. Really hoping this wasn’t our last day on the ice for this year but If it was, I’m glad it was a good day.

Fished the bay 1-20-24 targeting perch. I measured the ice right away in the morning and it was 9.75” in our spot. Fishing was a little tough with the high pressure but we adjusted by adding more weight to the minnows and it seemed to work. Rosy reds and shiner minnows, didn’t seem to matter.

Late report - Launched out of Bay Shore Park late AM last Saturday. Large perch fleet out to the north off Dykesville, but we were after walleye. Started tossing jigging baits around Point Comfort in 3'-6'. Gold 'sonar' style bait was the ticket. It took 3 average sized walleyes. Nothing on Shiver minnows or other jigging baits we tried.
Moved offshore hump and jigged. One other boat out there anchored upwind fishing slip bobbers over the top of the hump. Dude netted 4 nice walleye in the 20 minutes we jigged there. No bites for us though.
Should keep getting better. We fished in the middle of the day. Low light, AM or PM, would probably have been better.

A thank you to several Lake-Linkers who have reached out to see how I’m doing. I came down with staph, so it’s slowed my time on the water. I was out two Fridays ago with a crew, and we did well mainly because we had good wind during the trip. We managed 13 walleyes, with trolling #7 flicker minnows in pink lemonade, slick mouse, and glass fire Tiger our best colors. All our fish were on rocks, as is normal for this time of year. As waters cool I’m hopeful our bite will get better.
I have openings starting next week, for anyone looking to get out. Capt Jerry
