Caught a bunch of little perch and a few keepers. No bites on vertical jigs or jigging spoons. Everything was caught on tiny horizontal jigs that were brown with metallic colored heads. Tried everything. Ice was decent for walking. Saw where a sled went off the landing, broke through, and turned around. Lots of cracks with water coming through, and several spots with open water over the springs NW of the landing.

Has anyone been out on the lake this year? Looking for ice report. Thanks ??
Has anyone been out in the past 10 days?
You’re in a good area. If you’re standing on the shore and look to your left (north) there’s a small bay about 2/3 way up that shoreline. There’s good weeds just before you get to that bay. A 19# pike was taken there a number of years ago. My dads place is also on 53rd road.
Coming off of 53rd road. Just planning on fishing shallows for pike. I figured with all the depth changes on this lake it be a little iffy early ice. Just dont no the lake at all especially during the winter so not sure if there are bad area's to be careful of. Thanks for info
What part of the lake are you on? Take a spud bar...you should be okay but it is the last lake in the area to freeze because of the depth. For panfish, start in green weeds 7-10feet. If no luck, try the 20-30 ft mud flats.
My father in law bought a house on this lake and we will be up there for Christmas tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone had any ice reports or if there were any bad areas to watch out for since I've never iced fish this lake before. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Spent Sat (8/10) and Sunday (8/11) morning fishing Gilas--at various times trolling stick baits, float fishing crawlers off the dock, or parking over weed beds to jig with crawler segments. Was HARD to keep any trolled lure free of weeds for long--LOTS of uprooted weeds floating about the lake--if the lure didn't snag them, they'd wrap the line and work their way down. Still managed a fair number of bass that way, but all small to REALLY small. Zero action trolling anything 14' or deeper water. Only one northern to show for the entire weekend, and that was among a party of 5 spread out over 2 boats. Definitely remarkable, as Gilas has a reputation for being a pike lake and we were certainly targeting them. Jigging the weed patches proved to be the most fun, as long as your definition of "fun" doesn't include a fish fry for your efforts. Plenty of micro sized panfish and perch to both enfuriate and entertain. Did collectively catch three "keeper" gills, but released them all at the end of the day when the numbers just weren't there to make cleaning them worthwhile. My friend's youngest son wouldn't forgive me if I didn't mention the 14" bullhead he caught fishing from the dock. Only bullhead of the trip, but it was a dandy.

Ice is 10”-12” solid inches. First time on it. Picked up a bunch of little 5”-6” perch.
What is the ice report after the warm weather we have been having?
