Spent Sat (8/10) and Sunday (8/11) morning fishing Gilas--at various times trolling stick baits, float fishing crawlers off the dock, or parking over weed beds to jig with crawler segments.  Was HARD to keep any trolled lure free of weeds for long--LOTS of uprooted weeds floating about the lake--if the lure didn't snag them, they'd wrap the line and work their way down.  Still managed a fair number of bass that way, but all small to REALLY small.  Zero action trolling anything 14' or deeper water.  Only one northern to show for the entire weekend, and that was among a party of 5 spread out over 2 boats.  Definitely remarkable, as Gilas has a reputation for being a pike lake and we were certainly targeting them.  Jigging the weed patches proved to be the most fun, as long as your definition of "fun" doesn't include a fish fry for your efforts.  Plenty of micro sized panfish and perch to both enfuriate and entertain.  Did collectively catch three "keeper" gills, but released them all at the end of the day when the numbers just weren't there to make cleaning them worthwhile.  My friend's youngest son wouldn't forgive me if I didn't mention the 14" bullhead he caught fishing from the dock.  Only bullhead of the trip, but it was a dandy.

Fished Saturday afternoon. Produced 5 crappies all in 4-6 foot of water. Fished the same spot on Sunday afternoon and go the ones in the picture. Had quite a few come off next to the boat as well. A few small bluegills, some bass and a few small pike were mixed in. Threw a bunch of big females back so I would have something to fish for next year. Was using a small white jig with gulp leech.

fished gilas lake for a few hours today got a few small largemouths, one decent maybe 16in got off, had something pretty good feeling get off in deeper water. Gold topwater raps worked but bite was slow. Really windy and colder maybe 50-56 degrees outside. Lake seems like it could be good, some good weed growth, but landing is terrible, no dock, had trouble with 12ft john boat. wet willys Cool

Hi. i went back out to the lake this afternoon. We fished the edge again straight across from the boat landing and had some better luck with crawlers this time. At first we were only hookin the little gills again, but after a while we moved a little ways past all the houses to the north and hooked some nice bass, a couple nice gills, and one perch. It was a pretty fun time and i will definately come back up to this lake. We would still have been out there if it wasnt for it starting to rain. hopefully some people can give me some better pointers. Like where and what to use on this lake this time of year... Good luck too all of u comin out here! Smile
