Still some ice on the river but the good news is that it won’t be long until the 7ft poles get some action

Tried the river (from shore) by the Leach one more time this afternoon. Fished from noon 'til 4:30 PM. Picked up one WB and one 15" walleye while jigging with a 1/8oz bucktail jig tipped with a fathead. Both released. Had two other decent strikes, but didn't hook up. Had a fathead soaking on a river rig, but it wasn't touched. I am new to the river and the system, but there seemed to be more current this weekend. Thought it might be the wind helping out. Had a hard time keeping the jig ticking the bottom. 1/4 oz jigs just got me hung up. Anyway, enjoyed my one day off of work and the fresh air! Tight lines!

Thought I'd try for a walleye or two today, but no luck to speak of. Fished from shore near The Leach for about 4 hours, throwing a jig/minnow with one rod, and soaking a fat head on a plain hook on another rod. I did have one nice eater size walleye take a swipe at the jig/minnow combo just as I was pulling it up to cast again. I got a good look at the fish, but it would not hit again. Had one more good rap on the jig, took the minnow, but no hook up. Soaking the fathead produced nothing. From what I hear, I must be the only guy NOT catching walleyes! Oh well, love being out there. Tight lines!

Fished from shore by the Leach this afternoon from 11:30AM 'til 4:00PM. Pulled flies, soaked fatheads, and tried jigging. I was targeting 'eyes, but would have been happy with a meal or two of whites. Caught one dink walleye and lost what felt like a bigger fish. Nice to be out, but where the heck are they? Tight lines!

Fished Fox River (near mouth of Fox) across from Leach Amphitheatre 6-8:30am (Sunday). Set up deadpole crawler pole & cast little daredevils & gold cleos. Got Nuthin'! A guy nearby got 2 dinker walleyes (pitchin' flies) but the river's HIGH & movin' FAST!!! Hopefully it'll settle down in the days ahead!

Lookin' forward to fishin' this stretch of the river this spring/ summer! Any advice to a relative "newbie" river fisherman is always welcomed!

RT :-)
