There has been safe ice here in the SE part of the state on almost all the inland lakes for just over a week now. The ice seems to be staying at that 4-7 inch range depending on the body of water due to thawing during the day and freezing up again at night. Shorelines are getting pretty sketchy mid-day so be careful there. The small lake I was on we managed 3 pike 24-28" and a 2.5 lb largemouth followed by about 30 gills. All fish were released. Be careful these next few days but after Thursday the lakes should freeze tight for the rest of the season since it will be below freezing during the day as well.

Ice is holding with the warm weather. Fished a small body of water solo for a about an hour. 2" of ice. The last two days the ice has started to come off the auger a little chunky...still solid though with the freezing nights. Took nine home for the fryer.

Anyone know of a good pike lake where I can get a lot of flag action in the southern half of the state. Info would be much appreciated.
