Was out today between 11 and 3 PM. It looked like I was the first one out from the public launch. Walked across to Pickerel Bay and set up in about 5 to 6 feet of water. Ice was between 3 and 4 inches thick. I caught about 20 bluegill and kept a limit of 10 fish.( Yes, it's only a 10-fish limit) and of those 20 bluegill not a one was over 7 inches so I did keep 10 fish that were between 6 and 7 inches. Which brings me to my opinion: I think it's time to raise the panfish limit here as there are tons of small panfish. This is not just todays observation but also from the open water season catch. I have caught very few gills that went over 8 inches. I think by allowing a more liberal harvest of the small fish it might help the size rate. I know this is anecdotal information based only on my experience but it seems that the last few years the size has gone down and the abundance has gone up.
