Fished this afternoon on SW bay to burn up a couple left over large shiners in the bucket as the season ends.

Flags flew until the weather changed. When the fog left, so did the bite; Northern & LM Bass and all the dink BG & perch you wanted to play with. Game fish were on both the inside & outside weed lines. Pannies were in 17' outside the weed line.

Ice was slushy, some deep pockets; chains on ATV would have helped. Landing is in great shape. I did see some full size vehicle tracks out there. This cold snap should really help with travel conditions, for a few days anyway.

Was out by dam straight out from boat landing about 50 yards.  Marked a lot of fish all suspended at about 6 to 9 foot deep fishing in about 34 feet of water.  Marked them but didn't catch any

I’m hoping the high pressure system puts them on the feed it’s worked well in the past for me. Anyway I don’t use quick strike rigs except on my sucker pole when I’m musky fishing during spring and fall. My tip up rigs are 30 lbs power pro tip up line with 3 ft of 25 lbs fluorocarbon leader. A #14 treble hook and a 3/8 ounce split shot about 10-12 inches up from my hook. I use a swivel where my leader line and braid tie together to reduce twisting in my line. I like the #14 hook because it doesn’t seem to make a difference on hook sets but works whether I use shiners, chubs or rosies.

Good luck with the snow.

Trying tip ups for first time.  Any pointers on that?  Also do you have pics of quick strike rigs?

Fished the last few hours of light yesterday, mostly on the SW end/bay. Jigging for pans, tip downs, tip ups & rattle reel; 8' - 16'. Missed on one flag, a steal/drop on another. Then half hour later caught a below slot northern on tip down w/ crappie minnow (fun playing it in on 3# test). Kept the northern & a barely keeper perch.  When cleaning the northern, there in the stomach was the shiner that got stolen earlier on the tip up ( puncture wounds from treb hook were very evident).

Wife had something substantial on jig pole, but it broke off.

Had to check sets a couple of times to stay above weeds (1' +/- above bottom) w/ minnow baits.

Ice was in very good condition w/ all holes 8" thick, atv travel was rough in now old frozen tracks, great elsewhere. Very windy day!

 Good luck out there
