Fished Wed and Thurs 20th and 21st...kinda slow both days but managed a few cleanable panfish. Nothing on tip ups either day. Dam nice to get out and enjoy this weather that is for sure. Tight lines to all
Nice cat semper im jealous...
Yep- that’s it Carpio. I love catching cats through the ice.
Chaw. I’ve found out the same thing on Tichigan. Waxies work well with a tiny Moon Glow jig . Tiny piece of shrimp too. 2” off the bottom. CARPIO
Semper I’ve had better luck with Cats through the ice on a few squashed up waxworms. Agree cut bait kills during open water and I’m sure it works through the ice but I’ve had some pretty decent luck on the squashed waxies.
Below 0° F
I made it out yesterday around 3 and stayed till about 5...and it was brisk to say the least. Luckily the snow made pulling the shanty out a real chore so I got warm both directions. 7 or 8 inches of ice the panfish we're biting, nothing big but there was action most of the time as long as I kept jigging. Skills, yes I always put in at least one pole with cut bait in for a chance at a cat, no luck so far and I've fished comus for years. Summer time I do really well on cats and bullheads, but ice is a different story for whatever reason. I'll keep trying and report any success. I have cought carp through the ice with is a crazy fight on 2# test, biggest was around 8 lbs..that was a long battle. Tight lines all be safe. Damn glad to be back out.
Anyone ever catfish through the ice out here?
