I've been out twice from shore.  I managed one 18" on the opener, my daughter had a 20.5" and a 24" pike.  The second weekend Grandson caught a 12" smallmouth (first I've ever seen caught in the main body 70's-present) and a 17" walleye.

Last weekend we had the boat out for a quick run 6-8 pm ish and ended up with a lone 14".  Sunday 24th took both Grandsons out from about 1:30-6:30 and had 3 unders at 12" and a pair of 15" that came as a double.  All fish going back over the same spot.  All boat fishing is trolling and mostly just 2 flatlines.

Was out Friday morning and fished with crawlers. Caught one short eye early at 5:30 and 2 carp. Saw quite a few carp surfacing that you could shoot with bow as long as it ain't breezy.

Hesperus, any news on your end?

Lived and fished here 8 years and had one of the slowest opening weekends ever. Not sure if it was timing of the spawn or the crazy weather but only caught 11 Walleyes and kept 2 males. Went back yesterday and got one bite which was a keeper 16 inch male. Most on minnows but a couple on crawlers. Did  catch a few small Crappie and one Perch. Weird year.

Be Safe and Kind and Good Luck to All!

Fished opening weekend and got completely skunked. Spoke to a few people that they also weren't producing anything running boards. Does anybody have any idea why/ how long the water is manure brown? I know it's a stained lake but with the lack of rain we've had I was really surprised to see it as dark as it is. Debating on whether to try this weekend or try another lake.  **Conditions mentioned from opening weekend **

Bobber, thanks for the insight. I have a few ideas where to look for crappies, now. Agree that spending time figuring it out for yourself is satisfying. I’m willing to learn and figure out things. It’s nice to cross off a few variables, however. Haven’t had to learn a new crappie spot for a few years, but, it’s fun to go back to the basics. I’ll give it another whirl this weekend. Would like to have 5 nice ones for dinner.

Expect WAY more people fishing this year... as there is no school and A lot of people on unemployment....making great money might I add. Nothing to do but fish. I’d rather fish Dubay than the bep just because it is harder to fish for most folks. The bep people just throw out planet boars and suck out fish like a vacuum. Can’t do that on Dubay “:). Just went over by the bep and the water is dirt brown... will be bad fishing there for a bit in most places.

For the past 10 - 12 years we have been fishing the opener from shore in undisclosed location near the entrance of the park. For the past several years I have been arriving at 6:00 a.m. when the park opens and always have the place to myself. We always catch a ton of small walleye on a pretty steady basis which keeps the grandsons occupied. We usually end up with maybe one keeper walleye which is typically caught late morning close to noon. This year I rolled in at 6:00 to find the shelter areas already occupied so I had to find a different spot. I probably should have known this was going to happen after hearing reports of people fishing already last weekend before the season started. I set up in my new spot and caught one nice 18-in walleye already at 6:25 a.m. before the rest of the gang arrived. Unfortunately that was it for the day for me.  I pulled out lines and packed up at about 1pm.  My daughter ended up with what she thought was a keeper but turned out  to be 20.5" so it had to go back.   I also saw a guy in a boat catch one "slot release" walleye.

Wis fish I won’t be specific, but here’s an answer to your crappie question: blowdowns, no. Bullrushes: no as well. hope this helps a little. Takes time to learn this body...good luck.
