Braved the elements for a few hours this morning..had a near 30 incher follow, no hook ups. Just couldn't figure the Muskies out during the colder temps. Water temp was 45° just about everywhere. Still looking a while before we see ice

I have caught 2 like that one over the years on a lake not too far from Archibald but the white spots were not as highlighted Blush

It may be a hybrid because silver pike's typically would not have the dark markings on the back. The other possibility may be a disease causing discoloration, but the fish looks healthy in the picture.

If you wanted definitive identification, you could contact Chip from the DNR. If it is a silver pike, though, get ready for a 26" size limit on pike for that lake.

You are probably right since the back is dark with white spots.

Here is a photo of what we believed to be a "silver pike"

A picture would be neat to see. I haven't heard of or encountered one on archi. Could it have been a spotted muskie?

Was out for muskies last weekend. Had nothing on artificials. Had 3 solid hits on suckers but nothing netted. Teeth marks in the baits suggested muskies. Had a couple 20" North and a couple LG mouth. We did have one muskie swim through under and just below the boat in the shallows.

This lake has some nice Bass and Muskie as you can see by stopping at the bait shop in Lakewood to look at the pictures of one I had caught. Also some surprising Northern as well. My last trip a week ago gave up a number of bass and northern. One small muskie that might have been part of the brood stock they talk about. And a follow of a large muskie between the islands that would not take the bait but stayed next to the boat and looked just like the 43 and a half fish I had released the year before from the same spot. If you stop at the bait shop they have a lake map with some very good suggestions. As to answer the trolling question I have trolled for muskie with the same baits that I have had some success with on other lakes with no luck. This is one of the best small lakes in the area.

Has anyone ever seen or caught a "silver pike" out of Archi? Believe we caught one yesterday. Originally thought it was a muskie due to the size and coloration, but after some examination and research, silver pike seems more appropriate

water temp was around 51°, last week was at 57°

I was tracking the DNR change to trolling regs. But didn't get a chance to look at it again until the post a fee down. The point really is that until mid summer trolling was illegal so I am sure few people have tried until late this summer after the change. Maybe this had an effect on catch rates? Over pressure? I hope to get out this weekend to see if any skies are moving. Maybe it was just an off year? We saw a couple early in the year and had some follows but no hookups. Had limited follows in august but again no hookups.
