A great way to start is to go to the DNR website and look at a few maps. Find those lakes listed as "abundant" with panfish. Most of them are listed with depths and weed structure which can point you to a good starting point.

Fished this popular, community lake last night and was a bit disappointed. Bass numbers and quality have actually seemed to decline the past few years. We use to regularly get Largemouths 18-24 inches with many 50-100+ fish days. The panfish population also seems to be much lower quality than in the past. The intense pressure exerted on this lake seems to be taking it's toll. Sad

I went out there last friday and saturday, small gills and they are hard to find. I did get some 9" plus gills in the oddest spots, you just have to move away from conventional spots. Every northern was small, no eyes, except the crappie eye, those were on the small end 9-10", kept one over 13, the other just under 11. You have to know the lake, it's still hard then.
