Out in western Waukesha county today, ice was anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. Most other lakes had less ice

Went out with 2 other friends on a local Waukesha lake that is spring fed.  Used the spud bar off the access point and got out about 200 yds utilizing the spud bar to check ice every 5 ft or so.  Based on the lack of tracks in the snow, we were the first ones out there.  Ice was 2-3 inches the entire way out.  Ice was rock solid clear, no bubbles or slush and about an inch of whispy snow on the top.  We were able to stand next to each other all day and the ice didn't crack or budge.  It was a little scary venturing out at first but we stayed in 4ft of water or less.  Spud bar would pop thru after 3-4 hard pops.  Keep in mind that my spud bar is heavy duty and I bang it as hard as i can.  If I hit the ice  and it doesn't break through i know it will hold my weight (190lbs).   Had out 4 tipups and 4 tipdowns from about 9 to 3.  Caught 1 northern and had one other flag that was screamin' but after my buddy whiffed on it he declared it a "3inch perch".  Beer was cold.  Burgers and brats were warm.  Great day to be out.
