Canaan Lake is a small shallow man-made lake located in North Patchogue. It is accessible from Ohls Street at the north end.

Informal access is available at the north end of the lake via Ohls Street.

Directions: From Sunrise Highway, travel north on route 83 (North Ocean Avenue) to the light at Shaber Road; make a left. From Shaber Road make a right onto Old North Ocean Avenue. Drive several blocks north and make a left onto Ohls Street which dead ends at the lake.

Restrictions: Hand launched boats are allowed; shoreline access is available but limited.

ANGLING OPPORTUNITIES
Trout are stocked by the DEC to provide a seasonal fishing opportunity in the spring and fall. Canaan Lake also produces large yellow perch and chain pickerel. Heavy aquatic plant growth in the summer makes fishing difficult and demands special tactics (PDF).
