Most anglers target the rainbow trout during the spring and early-summer shortly after stocking. There are some cold water springs located in the northern part of the lake that do offer some refuge for trout during the warmer summer months. Because of the aquatic vegetation, weedless lures are recommended when fishing for largemouth bass.
Chenango Lake is stocked annually with approximately 10,500 yearling rainbow trout (8-9").
