History & Status of the Fishery
Reduced bag limits on sunfish (10 fish daily) and crappie (5 fish daily) were enacted on West Sylvia Lake beginning March 1, 2021. In order to collect additional pre regulation data, a targeted Bluegill and Black Crappie assessment was conducted on West Lake Sylvia from April 26 - 30, 2021.
Two hundred ninety Bluegill were caught on West Sylvia; lengths also ranged from 4 - 10 inches but averaged 8 inches. On West Sylvia 94% of the Bluegill sampled were greater than six inches and 40% were greater than eight inches in length. These results are above average for both fish greater than six inches and eight inches.
One hundred seventy-nine crappies were caught on West Sylvia; lengths ranged from 5 - 12 inches and averaged 10 inches. For West Sylvia Lake, 96% of the crappie caught were eight inches or longer while 47% of the catch were 10 inches or longer.
Fifty-three Pumpkinseed Sunfish were caught on West Sylvia and ranged from 5 -9 inches in length and averaged 7 inches; 136 Hybrid Sunfish were also caught and ranged in length from 5- 9 inches, with an average length of 8 inches.

Gorgeous Lake with good early morning fishing.
First off: The landing on the south west side of the lake is spacious with two docks (only one landing between the docks though), well maintained with a porta-potty and has a LOT of parking available. It is also well protected from the wind so even if the lake has a chop to it, loading and unloading your boat is easy. Second: The lake is beautiful with a lot of area and bays to explore. It is large enough for recreational boating/skiing, sight-seeing the beautiful properties surrounding it, and fishing. The lake also has a large island in the middle with an area on the south east side that is shallow and sandy for anchoring your boat and swimming. The lake is connected to East Lake Sylvia via a shallow channel which offers even more exploring and fishing. Third: The fishing is excellent, especially in the morning. Expect to catch panfish, bass, rock bass and northern. I am told there are walleye as well, but have yet to catch one in this lake.More Nearby Lakes To Explore
